Elmer Merlin Jenson, 81, of Goodhue, died on Saturday evening, June 27, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Elmer was born at home in rural Cannon Falls on Oct. 9, 1927, the son of Martin and Eza (Moorhouse) Jenson. He attended rural country school near Cannon Falls. @death of veteran: At age 17, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II from Oct. 22, 1945, until his honorable discharge on July 24, 1946. He later served during the Korean Conflict, from Oct. 24, 1950, until his honorable separation on Oct.
Lyle Joseph Ryan, 81, of Red Wing, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born Jan. 5, 1928, to Eugene and Justine (Hofschulte) Ryan. He attended schools in rural Goodhue. He farmed before joining the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean Conflict from Jan. 18, 1955, to Jan. 10, 1957. He continued farming after he was discharged. In addition, he worked at Bahls Implement in Hastings and Nord Implement and Mid-America in Zumbrota. He married Diane Grant on June 13, 1964. They later divorced. He married Joyce Spriggle on July 3, 1985.
Daniel W. Doyle, 34, of Welch, passed away June 24 at Regions Hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1974, in Red Wing to Paul and Karen Doyle. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patrick and Marie Doyle. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Karen Doyle of Welch; siblings, Patricia (Daniel) Solum of Spring Grove, Minn.; Kelly (Libbie) Doyle of Lakeville, Minn.; John Doyle of Lakeville; nieces and nephews, Annie, Bo, Rocco; special friend, Shelly Daleiden. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday in Burnside Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to American Diabetes Association.
Spencer James Winch, 20, of Red Wing, died unexpectedly Monday, June 22, 2009, at his home. He was born Sept. 21, 1988, to James and Mary (Williams) Winch. He moved to Red Wing at age 4 and had attended Red Wing Schools and since the age of 14 he has worked for Ripley's Rental. He wrestled and played football while he was in school.
N. Harriet Peper Nelson, 91, of Vasa, Minn. - Harriet, as her many friends knew her - passed away at St. Brigid's at Hi Park, Red Wing, Minn., on June 23, 2009, after a prolonged illness. Harriet was born in Hallock, Minn., Jan. 13, 1918, to Julius and Ida (Ingeman) Truedson. As a youngster she was baptized in the Red River Church. Her family moved to Red Wing when Harriet was at an early age. She attended Red Wing schools and graduated from Red Wing High School in the class of 1935. Education was to become her avocation.
Harold C. Felton, 84, of Cannon Falls, passed away on Sunday evening, June 21, 2009, at the Cannon Falls Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Randolph with the Rev. Steven Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow later in the afternoon at Lakeside Cemetery in Randolph, Minn. Lyla Loraine (Grote) Davis, 85, of Cannon Falls, died on Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Lyla was born on June 14, 1924, in Red Wing, the daughter of Walter "Bing" and Signe (Westberg) Grote. She graduated in 1942 from the Cannon Falls High School. She married Norvin Olson in April of 1943 and later Lynn Henry Davis in October of 1951. Lyla has resided in Cannon Falls for most of her life, with exception to living in Buffalo City, Wis., from 1967-86. In Cannon Falls, she was an active member of St.
Betty Jean Stevens was born Dec. 19, 1923, in St. Charles, Minn., to Minnie (Busher) and James Stevens. Following graduation from St. Charles High School, she worked in filing at Mayo Clinic. Betty married her Army beau, Walter "Wally" Arnold Froyum on Oct. 19, 1946, at Lands Lutheran Church. They first lived in Marion and then Janesville.
Earl Charles Wood, 99, of Red Wing, died of cancer Sunday at Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing. Earl was born Aug. 4, 1909, and educated in Austin, Minn., before moving to Red Wing. He married Esther Schrimpf in 1937. She died in 2002. He was an employee of Red Wing Shoe Co., co-owner of the Terrace Night Club in Lake City, and tended bar at the St. James Hotel in Red Wing. An avid hunter, fisherman, and boater, Earl was a member of the Red Wing Wildlife Club.
Walter Julius "Billy" Westerson Jr., 78, of Cannon Falls, died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Billy was born July 6, 1930, in Red Wing, the son of Walter Sr. and Olga (Anderson) Westerson. He grew up and attended school in the White Rock area. He farmed with his father for many years on the family farm in White Rock. He served with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. He received the Occupational Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
