Wrestling: Z-M closes regular season with two wins

Zumbrota-Mazeppa beat Plainview-Elgin-Millville, 50-12, and Pine Island, 68-9, to sweep a home triangular on Thursday. The Bulldogs beat the Panthers, 60-10, in the third dual.

The matches were the end of the regular season as section tournaments begin next week. Z-M (Section 1A) and Pine Island (Section 1AA) open the postseason on Thursday. Both sections have semifinals and finals at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Lake City 46, Triton 27

Lake City got three wins by fall and a major decision, along with three forfeits, to beat Triton 46-27 on Thursday.

Max Balow, Ivan Vargas and Gabe Vargas all pinned their Cobra opponent, while Derek Meincke picked up a 10-2 win for the Tigers.

Lake City will begin the Section 1AA team tournament on Thursday.

Byron 42, Cannon Falls 31

Byron and Cannon Falls went back and forth on Thursday, but two late forfeits by the Bombers, and a key pin from the Bears, was the difference in Byron's 42-31 victory.

Erwin Strelow and Levi Anderson won by fall early on for the Bombers, and Peter Fitterer picked up six more points midway through the dual as well.

Cannon Falls will be in action on Thursday in the Section 1AA team tournament.


K-W 31, Goodhue 30

Kaya Lindell picked up six points at 220 pounds, then Jesse Jackson was able to keep his loss to three points in Kenyon-Wanamingo's 31-30 victory over Goodhue on Wednesday.

Owen Schefler and Jeron Matson got the Knights off to a 10-0 lead, but the Wildcats got decisions from Maddox O'Reilly and Bjorn Otterness, and a forfeit win at 132, to take go ahead 12-10.

Tyler Craig, Seth Brossard and Nathan Bauer won three-straight for K-W, which was followed by a three-match run from Goodhue's Joel Breuer, Kaleb O'Reilly and Kelby O'Reilly. Logan Quam ended the streak with a Knights' decision at 195, setting the stage for Lindell and Jackson, who lost 4-1 to Ryan Schoenfelder.
