Red Wing opened the season on Thursday with a statement, sweeping Lake City in three sets (25-14, 25-17, 25-15).

Eva Hutter had nine kills, followed by Kate Sonju with six. Macy Koester guided the offense along with 19 assists.

Defensively, Dani Deming led the way with 12 digs, while Elle Brandt had seven. Elle Thorson had three blocks to go along with four kills.

"The team fought hard and had a lot of energy," Red Wing head volleyball coach Lindsay Woycheck said. "Lake City kept us on our toes, extending many rallies, but the girls stuck with it and pursued the ball well. Hutter and Sonju really stepped up and put the ball down at key moments."

Leading the way for Lake City were Grace Bany, who had 10 kills and three aces, and Delaney Issendorf with eight kills.
