Area Girls Tennis: Cannon Falls blows past Trinity School

Cannon Falls was finally able to get out on the court after a series of rainouts to start the season. The Bombers did well in their first match, too, defeating the visiting Trinity School at River Ridge, 5-2, on Thursday.

A pair of singles matches were won by Bombers — Hannah Hjellming won at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0, while at No. 4 singles, Morgan Kasa won 6-0, 6-1.

The Bombers swept all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Lindsey Miest and Maddie Hall won 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Jenae Quam and Ashley Johnson and No. 3 team of Claire Dicke and Lauren Ritz won by forfeit.

Next up for Cannon Falls is a trip to Rochester Lourdes on Tuesday.

Lake City 6, Cotter 1

Lake City returned to the win column on Thursday when it defeated visiting Cotter, 6-1.

In singles, No. 1 Ava Wallerich won 6-0, 6-2, while No. 2 Ashley Thieren won 6-1, 6-4 and No. 4 Katherine Kennedy won 7-5, 6-4.

The Tigers’ doubles team swept all three matches. The No. 1 team of Emma Brunkow and Renae Harvey won 6-3, 6-0, the No. 2 team of Kaylee Muenzhuber and Madeline Medvec won 6-0, 6-0 and the No. 3 team of Olivia Morrisey and Elsie Weinrich won 6-1, 6-0.

Lake City will next host Ellsworth on Tuesday.


John Marshall 4, Lake City 3

In a trip to Rochester John Marshall, the Lake City girls' tennis team found itself in a battle all the way through the lineup but came up just short, losing 4-3 on Wednesday.

Ava Wallerich won her match (6-2, 7-5) in No. 1 singles, as did Katherine Kennedy (6-2, 6-4) in No. 4 singles. The No. 3 doubles team of Olivia Morrisey and Elsie Weinrich also won 6-2, 6-2.
