Area Girls Tennis: Lake City opens season with sweep

The Lake City girls' tennis team opened its season on Friday, Aug. 17 at home with a 7-0 victory over New Life Academy.

Coming away with set sweeps for the Tigers were Ava Wallerich at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0, Sarah Ziebarth at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3, and Maddie Medvec at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. The No. 1 doubles team of Katherine Kennedy and Emma Brunkow also swept, 6-0, 6-0. Ashley Thieren won her match against Bryna Eignefeld by winning the first set, 6-0, dropping the second, 6-2, and rallying for the win in the third set, 6-1.

The Eagles were unable to field a full lineup so the Tigers took forfeit victories in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Lake City will be back in action on Monday with a trip to Rochester John Marshall and then return home on Tuesday with a matchup with Hastings at 10 a.m.
