Boys Tennis: Castner, Johnson take third place

The Section 4A individual boys’ tennis tournament took place on Tuesday and Wednesday with Red Wing and Lake City both receiving good results.

In doubles, Red Wing’s No.1 team of Logan Johnson and Coby Castner took third place. The duo won their first match on Tuesday, 6-4, 6-1. On Wednesday they fell in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-0, before rebounding to win the third-place match, 0-6, 7-6(3), 7-6(2).

Red Wing’s No. 2 team of Aidan Coyle and Lincoln Bryan won its first match on Tuesday, 6-1, 6-1, but fell in the second round, 6-3, 6-2.

Both of Lake City’s doubles teams fell in their first-round matchups. The No. 1 team of Jacob Miller and Alex Holmgren won its first set 6-4 but then dropped the next two, 6-3, 6-1. The No. 2 team of Eliah Ender and Deuynn Hofschulte fell 6-0, 6-0.

In singles, Red Wing couldn’t get out of the first round as Jackson Hull fell 6-0, 6-0, and Nate Farrar lost his match, 6-0, 6-1.

Lake City found greater success in singles as Mitch Medvec made it to Day 2 by earning a bye in the first round and advancing past the second round, 6-3, 6-0. He fell to eventual champion, Nathan Radke of Minnehaha Academy, in the semifinals, 6-1, 7-5. Medvec lost again in the third-place match to St. Paul Academy’s Max Soll, 6-3, 6-4, to seal a fourth-place finish.

The Tigers’ other singles participant, Ryan Heise, fell in the first round, 6-1, 6-2.
