Boys' Swimming: Red Wing falls to Northfield
The Red Wing boys' swimming and diving team lost to Northfield on Thursday, 94-80.
Northfield came in as a tough opponent that featured many strong, experienced swimmers. Red Wing head coach Mikayla Beuch said the team had to find races where Northfield had the weaker swimmers and adjust to the stronger ones.
"We knew going into this meet that it was going to be a tough fight for us due to numbers," Beuch said. "Northfield boasts over 40 athletes and we were down many kids, illness being one of the contributors."
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Red Wing team of Ian Johnson, Nick Bayley, Abe De Jong and Jayden Jech took second with a time of 1 minute, 47.62 seconds.
Individually, Johnson came in second in the 200 freestyle (2:01.20) and finished first in the 100 backstroke (57.82). De Jong won the 100 butterfly (56.61) and placed second in the 1 meter dive (190.70). Bayley finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:24.78), while Jech came in first in the 500 freestyle (5:21.12).
Red Wing next swims against Simley on Tuesday.
