Boys Swimming: Red Wing ninth at Big Nine meet

Red Wing's William Meacham took second in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.39 seconds on Saturday at the Big Nine Conference swimming and diving meet at Rochester Mayo. The Wingers finished ninth as a team with 89 points. The host Spartans won their third-straight conference title with 460.5 points. Rochester Century was second with 300.

In addition to Meacham's butterfly finish, Red Wing had three other top-10 finishes. Ian Johnson, Nicholas Bayley, Meacham and Jayden Jech competed in the 200 medley relay and placed sixth (1:45.78). Johnson finished ninth in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.10. In the final event, the Wingers got one more top-10 finish with the 400 freestyle relay team of Abe De Jong, Johnson, Meacham and Jech taking ninth with a 3:35.72.

Red Wing will now place its focus on the Section 1A meet Feb. 21-23 at the Rochester Rec Center.
