Boys Swimming: Wingers fall to Century
William Meacham won the 100-yard butterfly, and Abe De Jong came in second, but Red Wing could not duplicate those results in a 96-82 loss to Rochester Century on Thursday.
Meacham's 54.79 seconds in the fly was nearly four seconds better than De Jong, and the two Wingers were the only two to break a minute.
De Jong also took second in the diving competition with a 195.7, while Jayden Jech (2:00.5) was runner-up in the 200 freestyle. Also coming in second were Ian Johnson (56.1) in the 100 free, Jech (5:27.14) in the 500 free, Nick Bayley (1:13.67) in the 100 breaststroke and the 4x400 relay team of Meacham, De Jong, Johnson and Jech.
“The 400-free relay was close for us, and we ended up dropping a few seconds off our best time,” said Wingers head coach Mikayla Beuch. “The last race is always going to come down to grit, who wants it more. Our boys have the grit in them, we just don't always see it when we want to.”
Red Wing will be back in the pool on Tuesday against Mankato West at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
