Boys Swimming: Defending champs Mayo defeat Wingers
Facing two-time defending Big Nine Conference champion Rochester Mayo on Thursday, the Red Wing boys' swimming and diving team took a 97-72 loss at Twin Bluff Middle School to the visiting Spartans.
“It was a tough meet but the guys stayed strong throughout,” said Wingers head coach Mikayla Beuch. “We had a lot of swimmers drop consistent times with many of them edging towards personal bests. It's great to see so many fast times for these guys so soon in the season.”
Getting Red Wing's lone win of the night was diver Abe De Jong, who finished with a score of 168.85.
Willie Meacham had a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 11.76 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (55.36). Jayden Jech also secured a second-place time in the 100 freestyle at 53.01.
On Thursday, Dec. 21, Red Wing hits the road for a Big Nine dual versus Albert Lea.
