Jumping into the pool for the first time in the 2017-18 season, the Red Wing boys' swimming and diving team took a 98-86 Big Nine Conference dual loss at Faribault on Thursday.

Jayden Jech and Willie Meacham doubled up on first-place finishes. Jech won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 1.59 seconds, then followed that up with a first-place 500 freestyle finish at 5:45.58. Meacham won the 100 butterfly by seven seconds at 53.95 while also collecting a win in the 200 individual medley at 2:11.68.

The Wingers also netted a win in the 200 freestyle relay as the foursome of Jech, Meacham, Trent Dieman and Nick Nordenskjold hit the board at 1:38.55.

"It was a good first meet for us to start our season," said Red Wing head coach Mikayla Beuch. "We have a lot of young and new faces on the team, so for them to be able to watch the older kids and see how they compete is important. There were some strong swims from some of our veteran swimmers and it showed that we are in a good place right now and we have room to continue to grow. We know what we did well and we know where we can improve and now it's time to make those changes in practice."

On Thursday, Dec. 14, the Wingers will have their first home meet of the year against Rochester Mayo.
