Softball: Red Wing bounces back with win over Austin

Behind the pitching of Justine Swenning and the hitting of Skyla Reed the Red Wing softball team past Austin 8-2 on Thursday.

The Wingers scored three runs in the third to break the scoreless tie. After giving up two runs in the bottom of the third, the Wingers scored a run in the fourth and fifth before adding three runs in the seventh.

Reed paced the Winger offense, going 4-for-4 with three RBI. Hailey Ehlers had two hits which included a home run.

Swenning pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters for the Wingers.


After grabbing an early lead, the Red Wing softball team fell 11-2 to Mankato West on Tuesday.

The Wingers scored two runs in the top of the first inning to gain a quick lead. The Scarlets chipped away and regained the lead in the fourth inning after scoring one run in the first, third and fourth. Leading 3-2, the Scarlets blew the game open with a five-run fifth.

Justine Swenning had two hits for the Wingers. Meg Grove drove in one of the two Winger runs.

Red Wing next travels to face Austin on Thursday.
