Area Girls Soccer: Wildcats win third straight

After starting the season 0-3 with a goal margin of minus-24, the Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa girls' soccer team has a margin of plus-12 in the past three games, winning each one. The latest victory came via a 5-1 score over Lake City on Thursday.

Morgan VanHouten scored three goals, Lana Yeakel scored one goal, Mia Schmoll had a goal and an assist, and Emma Ann Oberg registered one assist for PIZM. Jordan Weber stopped all eight shots she faced.

For Lake City, Ashley Vernon scored the lone goal, while Carley Platte stopped 19 shots.

PIZM (3-3) next hosts Red Wing, while Lake City (1-6) travels to Plainview-Elgin-Millville. Both games will be on Monday.

Stewartville 6, Cannon Falls 0

Cannon Falls couldn't find a way to get a ball in the net for the third game in a row, falling to Stewartville, 6-0, on Thursday.

Mari Mendivil made 22 saves on 28 attempts for the Bombers. Cannon Falls was outshout 28-1.

Cannon Falls (2-7) will attempt to right the ship on Saturday with a trip to Caledonia.
