Fresh off a blowout loss, Red Wing recouped and shut out Cannon Falls on Monday, 4-0.

The Wingers peppered the Bombers’ keeper early and often taking 36 shots during the game — 17 of them on goal.

All of Red Wing’s scoring happened in the first half, including two goals and an assist from Matea Simonson, one goal and assist from Camille DeSutter, and one goal by Laney Hewes.

Cannon Falls managed one shot on goal, which Ashlyn Nystuen stopped.

“(It) was nice to see success early especially in our midfield — Camille DeSutter, Ella Sutherland and Anna Bowes in particular had strong games connecting us through the middle as we got to work in some other players around them,” Red Wing head girls’ soccer coach Taylor Becker said. “Total all-around team effort as everyone on the roster was able to contribute to us getting better today.”

Red Wing (1-5-1) will look to carry that success into its home game against Faribault on Tuesday.

Lourdes 8, Red Wing 1

After playing teams close all year and keeping scores low, the Wingers fell victim to a tough blowout loss to Rochester Lourdes on Saturday, 8-1.

Lourdes scored five goals in the first half, with three players scoring two goals each.

Red Wing only managed five shots on goal throughout the game.
