Girls Soccer: Wingers start season with scoreless tie

The Red Wing girls' soccer team started its season without a win or loss, or goal for that matter, but played well against Mankato East on Thursday to force a 0-0 tie.

The Wingers were outshot 11-9 but keeper Ashley Nystuen played well between the posts, including an early penalty kick save.

"Our back line — Sydney Rahn, Lily Befort and Mia Gronseth — played exceptionally well and kept their dangerous opportunities to a minimum," Red Wing head girls' soccer coach Taylor Becker said. "We challenged the girls to stay composed as the game got a bit more intense and it almost paid off with Laney Hewes creating a great chance with 10 seconds left that (Mankato East's) keeper dove to."

Red Wing welcomes Mankato West on Tuesday for the Wingers' first home game of the season.
