Area Girls Soccer: Bombers come up short

The Cannon Falls girls' soccer team traveled to Schaeffer Academy for its season opener on Thursday, but came back with a 2-1 loss.

Neither team could crack the scoreboard in the first half, but both broke through in the second. Cannon Falls' Anna Giese scored one goal, while Schaeffer Academy's keeper, Elizabeth Carter, knocked away 12 other Bomber shots.

Cannon Falls will look to get in the win column on Saturday with a trip to Faribault.

Dover-Eyota 5, PIZM 0

Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa couldn't find a way onto the scoresheet as it dropped its season opener to Dover-Eyota on Thursday, 5-0.

Dover-Eyota scored two goals in the first half and three in the second. Individual statistics were unavailable.

PIZM next hosts Winona Cotter on Tuesday.

St. Charles 13, Lake City 1

Lake City traveled to St. Charles on Thursday for its season opener and fell, 13-1. St. Charles had three players record at least three goals. Individual statistics for Lake City were unavailable.

Lake City travels to Winona Cotter on Monday for its next game.
