Travel on local ice prohibited

Due to extended unseasonably warm weather, Goodhue County Sheriff Marty Kelly has closed the following bodies of water to certain motorized vehicle traffic pursuant to Minnesota State statute 86B.106.

Lake Byllesby (Stanton Township) — Prohibit all motorized vehicles on this body of water including cars, trucks, ATVs, and snowmobiles.

Upper Harbor, Bay Point (mile marker 791.4) — Prohibit all motorized vehicles on this body of water including cars, trucks, ATVs, and snowmobiles.

Lake Pepin (mile marker 773 to 784) Prohibit all motorized vehicles on this body of water including cars, trucks, ATVs, and snowmobiles. This includes access points at Methodist Campus and Hok-si-la landing.

Frontenac Pond (Florence Township) — Prohibit all motorized vehicles on this body of water including cars, trucks, ATVs, and snowmobiles.

The current ban on these locations will remain in effect until improved conditions warrant a reconsideration, which appears unlikely at this time, according to the sheriff's department. Any person who operates in violation of this closure is subject to a misdemeanor citation.

Direct any questions about this ban to Sgt. Scott Powers at the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office, 651-267-2848.
