Boys' Hockey: Simley edges Red Wing in overtime

Faribault jumped out to a two-goal lead, but Red Wing scored five-straight goals to come away with a 5-2 win on Friday.

The Falcons scored 48 seconds apart midway through the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission before Michael Stoffel and Josh Rikli scored on assists from Gavin Lampe and Taite Luhman, respectively, in the second.

Lampe opened the third with the eventual game-winning goal from Stoffel at 5:08, followed by lamp-lighters from Luhman, assisted by Rikli, at 8:53, and Barrent Blaney, assisted by Cam Blue, at 15:20.

The teams combined for 47 minutes of penalties on 13 infractions, including a major and two misconducts.

Dixon Ehlers made 36 saves for the Wingers, who had 38 shots on Faribault goalie Spencer Ell.

Red Wing (6-15, 4-7 Big Nine) will visit St. Paul Johnson on Saturday, head to Albert Lea on Monday and host John Marshall on Tuesday.

Tuesday

Cooper Bollman's goal in overtime gave Simley a 5-4 win over Red Wing in boys' hockey action on Tuesday.

The Wingers jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period with goals from Gavin Lampe and Michael Stoffel. Spartan Noah Roitman found the back of the net on the powerplay at 3 minutes, 15 seconds in the second period. Barrant Blaney gave Red Wing a two-goal advantage again with a an unassisted goal at 9:40 in the second.

With Red Wing leading 3-1 at the start of the third period, Simley took the lead with three unanswered goals in a span of 1:37.

Simley led 4-3 in the later stages of the third period until Winger Cam Blue tied the game with a goal at 11:06. Bollman scored unassisted at 3:44 in the extra period for the game-winning goal.

Blue recorded two assists to give him a three-point night. Goaltender Dixon Ehlers made 42 saves for the Wingers.

Red Wing fell to 5-15 overall. The Wingers host Faribault on Thursday.
