Girls Hockey: Wingers on to section title game

Red Wing punched its ticket to the Section 1A championship game with a 10-0, semifinal victory over Austin on Saturday.

Taylor Heise scored twice in the first period, three times in the second and twice again in the third to lead the Wingers to the win. Emily Hart scored in the first and second, while Nicole Oberding had a second-period goal. Heise also had two assists, as did Hart and Oberding. Delaynee Fox, Elle Bryant and Kendal Swanson each had one assist.

The Wingers had 54 shots on goal while holding the Packers to 11, including three in the second and just two in the third. Tyler McGrath got the shutout with 11 saves while Faith Sayles made 44 saves for Austin.

Top-seeded Red Wing (22-4-0) will face second-seeded Rochester Lourdes (14-11-0) at 8 p.m. Thursday at Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna. The Eagles beat Faribault, 6-0, in the other semifinal.
