Gymnastics: Winona tumbles by Red Wing

A visit to Winona had some highs and lows for Red Wing, but the Winhawks had a few more of the former in a 133.9-127.0 win over the Wingers.

Red Wing's Breck Bergin continued a solid season with a win on the vault with a 9.25, and second place in both the uneven bars (8.35) and balance beam (8.6). Carolyn Hanson was third on the vault with an 8.9, and third on the bars with an 8.1. On the floor exercise, Hanson was the only Wingers in the top three, taking third with an 8.6.

“The Wingers had a hot and cold night with falls plaguing us on beam and floor. The girls did a great job on vault and bars,” said Red Wing head coach Lisa Hanson. “We had our season-high event total on vault with all five girls performing nicely and (Carolyn) Hanson’s stick on the tsuk.”

The Wingers are in action on Tuesday in a rescheduled meet in Mankato against both East and West. Red Wing wraps up the regular season at home on Friday against Northfield.
