State Golf: Yoemans leading after one round
After Round 1 of the Class AA State Girls Golf Tournament, Red Wing's Sophia Yoemans leads all individuals.
Yoemans is the only golfer to shoot under par for the round. After playing an even first nine, Yoemans birdied the first three holes on the back nine en route to a 69 by day's end.
Winger Leah Herzog sits in a tie for second after the first round with a 73. Ava Bremseth shot an 86. Sydney Flack had a 91. Grace Dube shot a 99 and Ashton Chandler finished with a 104.
The Wingers as a team sit in second place, six strokes behind first-place Minnetonka.
For the Winger boys' team, Cecil Belisle had a rough start to his first round. Belisle triple bogeyed his first hole, but came back with a couple birdies in the first nine holes. In the back nine, Belisle double bogeyed his 13th hole and played fairly even from that point on. Belisle finished his day with a 74, two strokes off individual leader Kyle Hickey of Rochester Lourdes.
Michael Stoffel shot an 81, Mac DeSutter had an 87, Denval Atkinson shot an 89, William Ahrens finished with a 91 and Cole Krie finished his day with a 92.
The Wingers sit in sixth place as a team, 21 strokes behind team leader Holy Family Catholic.
