Update: Red Wing shooting suspect arrested in Woodbury hotel; victim identified

Area Golf: Lake City girls, PIZM boys finish in second at sections

Falling behind on the back nine, the Lake City girls' golf team (328-327--655) came in second place at the Section 1AA tournament in Cannon Falls.

The Tigers were led by Ava Wallerich (74-79--153) who finished third among individuals. Wallerich wasn't the only Tiger to have a good tournament. Three other Tigers finished in the top 10 individually.

Marah Rothgarn came in fifth (77-84--161), while Jordana Windhorst-Knudsen finished in sixth (84-85--169).

Other Tiger golfers include Molly Kennedy (93-86--179), Taylor Willers (99-85--184) and Hannah LaBonte (91-96--187).

The Tigers trailed Red Wing by three strokes after the first day and led by five after the front nine on Day 2. Red Wing head coach Mark Herzog praised the Lake City coaches and said the Tigers were the toughest and best team they've played against.

Lake City still advanced three golfers to the Class AA state tournament on June 11 and 12 at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan. Wallerich, Rothgarn and Windhorts-Knudsen all qualified as individuals.

Maggie Bahr of Cannon Falls (7th, 84-85--169) also grabbed an individual spot at state.

PIZM takes second

On the boys' side, Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa (337-329--666) came in second place in the Section 1AA tournament, 31 strokes behind first-place Red Wing.

Anthony Cylkoski led the team and finished fourth among individuals with a two day total of 154, shooting two rounds of 77. With his score, Cylkoski earned an individual spot at the Class AA state meet. Michael Scripture tied for 10th with a 85-84--169. Jacob Smith just missed the top-10 by a stroke, finishing with a 86-84--170. Joe Scripture rounded out the PIZM scores with a 89-84--173.

Other area golfers include: Henry Johnson, Cannon Falls (88-86--174), Luke Langdon, Cannon Falls (91-89--180), Aaron Lawless, Cannon Falls (93-88--181)
