Area Football: Navratil, Pine Island carve up La Crescent

Josh Navratil opened Friday's game with a 93-yard bang, returning the opening kickoff to the end zone to propel Pine Island to a 52-0 victory over La Crescent.

Navratil added three rushing touchdowns in the win, including runs of 35 and 48 yards in the first quarter, and a 68-yard scamper in the second. Carter O'Reily hit Max Owen for a 47-yard touchdown between Navratil's exploits before adding a second touchdown toss of 10 yards to Will Warneke before Navratil's final score of the first half.

Dylan Holzer made it 39-0 at the break with a 24-yard field goal with 7 minutes, 7 seconds left in the second quarter.

O'Reily and Warneke connected for one more touchdown with 6:21 to play in the third, covering 4 yards and making it a 49-0 game. Holzer tacked on a 30-yard field goal with 0:04 on the third-quarter clock.

The Panthers out-gained the Lancers 441-115, with 290 yards coming on the ground. Navratil finished with 227 yards on just 11 carries while O'Reily hit on 9-of-13 passes for 151 yards. La Crescent had minus-13 yards on 20 carries.

Pine Island (2-3) hosts Plainview-Elgin-Millville in Week 6. The Bulldogs (2-3) are coming off a 56-20 win over Lake City.

PEM 56, Lake City 20

Plainview-Elgin-Millville was as consistent as could be on Friday night. The bad news for Lake City was that consistency was on the scoreboard as the Bulldogs put up 14 points in each quarter for a 56-20 win over the Tigers.

PEM's Riley Wingert had 209 yards rushing on 18 carries and touchdowns in the first and third quarters while Carter Marx added 103 yards on 13 carries and hit paydirt in the first and second frames. Joe Irish finished 5-for-9 passing for the Bulldogs, with three touchdowns and an interception. Irish hit Kyler Bade for a 29-yard score in the third, Kael Lamb for another 29-yard touchdown in the fourth, and Joshua Pecos from 21 yards later in the final quarter. Irish also had a 1-yard touchdown run in the second.

Lake City got on the board after PEM held a 28-0 lead. Aidan Creely caught a 28-yard pass from Nathan Heise, who finished 12-of-20 for 190 yards and two scores, the second of which came with 11 seconds left in the first half, a 10-yard toss to Ethan Bany. The halftime score was 28-20.

Brady Schurhammer ran in a 2-yard touchdown midway through the third to cut the score to 35-20 before the Bulldogs put the final 21 points in the books.

Lake City (0-4) hosts Byron (2-3) in Week 6. The Bears lost to undefeated and second-ranked Lourdes, 28-7, on Friday.

Cannon Falls 53, Z-M 19

Logan Hofstedt put the Bombers on his back and carried Cannon Falls to a resounding 53-19 win over Zumbrota-Mazeppa on Friday.

Hofstedt scored five touchdowns and ran for an unofficial 403 yards in the victory.

The Bombers (1-4) will look to backup its first win of the season in Week 6 at Triton (0-5) which dropped its Friday game at Dover-Eyota, 30-17. The Cougars (1-4) will ride a four-game losing streak into its Week 6 game against Class AA's ninth-ranked St. Charles (5-0), a Friday winner over Lewiston-Altura, 26-12.
