Area Girls' Basketball: Z-M, Goodhue lead area
The Goodhue girls’ basketball team had an all-around solid night in a 65-50 win over Pine Island on Monday.
The Wildcats grabbed a lead, but had to hold off the Panthers’ late-game run sparked by Panther Alexandra Larson.
The Wildcats were led by Kate Opsahl and Lexie Lodermeier. Opsahl had a team-high 17 points, three 3-pointers, eight rebounds and five steals. Lodermeier recorded a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Torrie Rehder was praised by Wildcats head coach Josh Wieme for her defensive effort and active night of basketball. Rehder finished with 10 points, six rebounds and eight steals.
Larson led the Panthers with a game-high 20 points. Brooke Sinning scored 11 points and Bailey Kennedy added eight points.
Goodhue improved to 18-5 overall and 10-2 in the Hiawatha Valley League. Pine Island fell to 8-15 overall and 2-10 in the HVL.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa 72, Triton 55
Zumbrota-Mazeppa charged past Triton 72-55 on Monday.
Ali Hunstad led the Cougars with 19 points. Makayla Arendt had 15 points and Sarah Mensink scored 10 points.
Z-M improved to 17-5 overall and 9-3 in the HVL.

The Cannon Falls girls' basketball team fell 62-55 to Chatfield on Saturday.
The Bombers held a 3-point lead at halftime, but fell behind in the second half.
"We shot well from the 3-point line but struggled from the free throw line tonight," said Cannon Falls head coach Samantha McCamy. "It was a physical game and we just got out muscled. Tough one to lose; but we need to look ahead to next week."
Makayla Bowen led the Bombers with 19 points, eight rebounds and six of the team's 11 3-pointers. Bella Davisson contributed 13 points and three 3-pointers.
Cannon Falls fell to 6-16 overall.
