Girls' Basketball: Wingers' hot shooting leads to win

Red Wing had little trouble winning their opening game of the Section 1AAA tournament, outscoring Winona, 73-46, on Wednesday.

On a night that the Wingers shot 46 percent from the floor and 40 percent from the three-point line, points were not difficult to attain. In fact Red Wing started the game fast, securing a 34-14 lead by halftime. The Wingers had four players reach double-digit scoring and were also able to grab 41 rebounds to complete the full-team effort.

Tayzha Buck led the Wingers with 18 points, Kyli Nelson had 14, Lindsay Reps 11 and Sydney Rahn 10. Abi Deming led the team with 10 rebounds while Reps also corralled nine.

Winona was led by Selena Lor's 24 points.

Red Wing (21-6, 16-6 Big Nine) will next face Faribault in the semifinals at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday at Mayo Civic Center.
