Boys' Basketball: Wingers fall on Senior Night

Red Wing fell in its regular season finale, 57-36, to Winona on Senior Night.

The Wingers struggled to get shots to fall, finding themselves with a 30-16 deficit at the half. Red Wing fared better in the second half, but Winona remained one-step ahead to keep its lead intact.

Carson Nystuen had a team-high 10 points for the Wingers, followed by Ted Tauer with nine and Marcus Walm with seven.

Individual statistics for Winona were unavailable.

Red Wing finished up the regular season with a record of 5-21 (4-18 Big Nine). The Section 1AAA tournament will be seeded this weekend.


Northfield 79, Red Wing 46

Red Wing was unable to come home with a victory after traveling to Big Nine rival Northfield on Tuesday, dropping the contest 79-46.

The Wingers shot the ball fairly well in the first half, putting up 30 points, but in the second half the Raiders’ defense clamped down and baskets became more difficult to come by. Northfield, on the other hand, shot extremely well, making 52 percent of their shots from the floor and 41 percent from behind the arc.

Zach Cota had a strong game for the Wingers, scoring a career-high 23 points to lead the team. Ted Tauer and Carson Nystuen also contributed six points apiece.
