Girls Basketball: Goodhue advances to semifinal

By scoring 34 points in the second half, Goodhue was able to blow open its lead and defeat Randolph, 53-19, in the Section 1A quarterfinals on Monday.

Goodhue had a difficult time getting shots to fall in the first half, taking a narrow 19-14 lead into the break. Superb defense throughout the game sparked the offensive outpouring in the second half however.

"Team defense was outstanding," Goodhue head coach Josh Wieme said. "Torrie Rehder set the tone defensively by playing really well."

Sydney Lodermeier led the Wildcats with 17 points and eight rebounds. Arianna Thomforde and Lexie Lodermeier also chipped in seven points apiece.

Randolph was led by Alyssa Whitsno's 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Goodhue (21-7, 12-4 Hiawatha Valley League) will advance to the semifinals to face No. 2 seed Hayfield at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mayo Civic Center.

Randolph's season came to a close with the loss, leaving them with a final record of 20-8 (9-4 Southeast Conference).
