Girls Basketball: Z-M edges TCU

Zumbrota-Mazeppa had to overcome a seven-point deficit, then lost a nine-point lead, lost a senior leader and, yet, still found a way to beat Tri-City United, 52-50, on Friday.

Cougar Lyndsey Quam had six points, but fouled out with six minutes to play. Filling the void were fellow senior Lauren Miller, who had 19 points, and sophomore Ali Hunstad, who finished with 16 points. TCU missed a half-court heave at the buzzer.

“That's a confidence booster for us, to be honest,” said Z-M head coach Andy Bromeling. “To pull out that kind of win where you're down seven, up nine, then hit free throws in a tight game down the stretch. That was a good win.”

The Cougars (14-5) have two road tests next week, starting with Goodhue on Tuesday and then Hayfield on Friday.
