Area Girls Basketball Wrap: Eighth-grader helps Wildcats tame Tigers
Getting a somewhat-unexpected lift from an eighth-grader, fourth-ranked (Class A) Goodhue pulled away with with 65-46 Hiawatha Valley League win over Lake City on Friday night.
Eighth-grader Joslyn Carlson was a driving force for the Wildcats with a career-high 14 points. She joined a trio of double-digit scorers for Goodhue as Sydney Lodermeier and Arianna Thomforde both had 16 points.
Mya Shones came up with a team-high 14 points for the Tigers. Allison Kubista hit three 3-pointers as part of an 11-point effort, followed by 10 points from Grace Bany.
Goodhue (13-3, 8-1 HVL) heads to St. Peter on Saturday for a non-conference game with Delano. Lake City (7-9, 3-7 HVL) returns home Tuesday, Jan. 23 to face Cannon Falls.Thursday
Lyle-Pacelli 53, Randolph 29
Randolph had a tough time against Class A’s best team Thursday night as the Rockets dropped a Southeast Conference game with Lyle-Pacelli, 53-29.
The Rockets had just three players score on Thursday, led by Hannah Neil’s 12 points and 11 rebounds. Alyssa Whitson came up with nine points while Morgyn Otte added eight in the loss.Tuesday
Z-M 76, Kasson-Mantorville 63
Hitting 12 3-pointers on the night, Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s fast-paced offense was too much for Kasson-Mantorville as the Cougars picked up a 76-63 Hiawatha Valley League win on Tuesday.
Megan Johnson hit six outside shots to score a game-high 19 points. Ali Hunstad followed with 13 points, and Makayla Arendt and Lauren Miller came up with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Mya Suess was the KoMets’ top scorer with 16 points, followed by 11 from Bailey Berge.
Goodhue 55, Pine Island 30
Goodhue recovered from its first conference loss last week with a 50-33 Hiawatha Valley League win Tuesday over Pine Island.
Sydney Lodermeier paved the way for the Wildcats with 14 points and 10 rebounds, followed by eight points and six boards from Emily Benrud. Mariah Tipcke hit three 3-pointers for nine points, and Arianna Thomforde chipped in with eight points.
Autumn Pin came up with 10 points and four rebounds for the Panthers, followed by seven points apiece from Brooke Sinning and Bailey Kennedy. Sinning also grabbed five rebounds.
Cannon Falls 49, Byron 46
Led by a 13-point effort from Tatum Pickar, Cannon Falls was able to knock off Byron for a 49-46 Hiawatha Valley League victory on Tuesday.
Behind Pickar, Kira Jacobson finished with nine points and five rebounds, followed by six points apiece by Kara Loeschke and Makayla Bowen. Kaly Banks chipped in with five points and six rebounds.
