Area Boys Basketball Wrap: Goodhue nabs section win

Goodhue moved to 4-2 in Section 1A play after securing a 43-36 win against Fillmore Central on Monday.

Sam Opsahl provided the biggest lift for the Wildcats with nine points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. Dawson Evanson added nine points and three rebounds, and Mitchell Hemenway came up with eight points and 10 rebounds. Mitchell Schrimpf chipped in with nine points and five rebounds.

Josh Peters was the Falcons' top scorer with 11 points, followed by nine points by Matt Lutes.

Goodhue (9-5) travels to Pine Island on Tuesday and Lake City on Friday.

Late Friday

Rochester Lourdes 87, Z-M 84

It seemed like neither Zumbrota-Mazeppa or Rochester Lourdes could miss on Friday night as the two teams lit up the scoreboard. Ultimately, the Eagles were able to thwart the Cougars for an 87-84 Hiawatha Valley League win, snapping Z-M's seven-game win streak in the process.

Jacob Niebuhr came up with 26 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Cougars. Isaiah Nolte scored 18 points with six rebounds and four steals, and Robvon Jackson added 17 points. Zach Hutton also finished in double figures with 10 points along with eight rebounds.

Lourdes had three players – Matthew Hayford (24), Antewan Webber (18) and Colin Meade (15) – finish in double figures.

Z-M (11-3, 5-2 HVL) heads to Kasson-Mantorville on Tuesday before returning home Thursday against Byron.
