Late Friday

Cannon Falls 64, Hill-Murray 61

Down 26-13 in the first half, Cannon Falls looked like it may get blown out in the season-opener versus Hill-Murray. But the Bombers battled back and managed to knock off the Pioneers for a 64-61 win on Friday night.

“It was a nice, gritty effort by our guys to dig in for what was a physical, fast basketball game,” said Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson. “Overall, it was a nice start to our season.”

Leading the Bombers’ efforts was Ryan Dirckx, who finished with 24 points, including four 3-pointers and a 10-for-12 effort at the free-throw line. Chase Reber added 12 points, followed by 11 from Isaac Illa.

As a team, Cannon Falls finished 17 of 20 at the free-throw line to go with seven 3-pointers.

Hill-Murray had two players — Matt Weimann (14) and Matt Langer (13) — finish in double figures.
