Girls Basketball: Cannon Falls gets first win

In Cannon Falls on Monday, the host Bombers were able to net win No. 1, beating Schaeffer Academy for a 48-43 non-conference victory.

“It was an emotional game for everyone,” said Cannon Falls head coach Samantha McCamy. “We were down early and then made a big run at the end of the first half. We came out strong from halftime and then Schaeffer Academy made a big run. The Bombers fought until the end. They gave 100 percent effort the entire game. It was great to see them get the ‘W.’”

Tatum Pickar was the Bombers’ top player with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, along with six steals. Kira Jacobson approached a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds, and Bella Freeberg, Kaly Banks and Makayla Bowen each came up with seven points.

The Lions’ Megan Boegel led all scorers with 15 points along with 13 points.

On Thursday, Cannon Falls (1-1) will travel to Medford to start a five-game road trip.
