Aces lose in extra innings to Miesville on the Fourth
MIESVILLE — The Red Wing Aces and Miesville Mudhens met at Jack Ruhr Field on the Fourth of July to celebrate the day with some town baseball.
After the Mudhens got out to a quick lead, the Aces chipped away and eventually tied the game — appropriately at 4-4.
The game went into extra innings until Miesville walked off victorious 5-4 on RBI single by Austin LaDoux.
Thursday was Military Appreciation Day and right after the singing of the national anthem, a local service man and his wife were presented and wrapped with a quilt courtesy of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, which is meant to promote healing and comfort in a veteran who has been touched by war.
Miesville struck first with one run in first off of an RBI fielder's choice by Deryk Marks that scored Brad Goulet. The Mudhens added two more runs in the third when Marks added another RBI fielder's choice that again scored Goulet, and Nate Hammes brought home Marks on an RBI double.
Red Wing cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the fourth when Brady Schroeder hit a solo home run. The Aces then scored run in the top of the sixth with Josh Thygesen's sacrifice fly ball that scored Schroeder, and the Aces trailed by one.
The Mudhens got a run back in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Joey Werrner. However, the Aces tied the game in the top of the seventh on three straight hits. Adam Thygesen singled, Ty Buck doubled and Corey Tauer scored them both with a two-RBI single to knot the game.
In the bottom of the 10th, Werner led off with a walk, Max Gamm singled and LaDoux brought Werner home with a walk-off single to give Miesville the win.
Aaron Johnson started on the mound for Red Wing and threw 51/3 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and three walks with four strikeouts. He was relieved by Teddy Tauer, who pitched the remaining 4 ⅓ innings and was ultimately tagged with the loss; he gave up just the one run in the bottom of the 10th on a total of four hits and a walk with one strikeout.
Adam Thygesen, Buck and Corey Tauer each had two hits apiece for the Aces while Corey Tauer led the team with two RBI.
Thomas Shogren was the starter for Miesville and he went 5 ⅔ innings, giving up two runs on four hits, six walks and two hit batsmen and one strikeout. He was relieved by Jacob Dickmeyer, who eventually got the win after going 4 ⅓ innings and giving up two runs (which tied the game) on four hits with five strikeouts. Hammes led the Mudhens with three hits while Marks had two RBI and both Goulet and Werner scored twice.
