Area Baseball: Weidner drives in eventual game-winner for Randolph
In a quick paced, tightly contested game, Cannon Falls came out on top 2-1 over Goodhue on Thursday.
Neither team could string together any hits or push across a run through four innings of play. In the fifth, the Bombers broke through for two runs.
Roan Reardon, Ben Villarreal each singled to lead off the fifth inning. Graham Pearson laid down a perfectly placed bunt down the third base line for a base hit, which loaded the bases. A fielder’s choice and walk scored two runs.
From there, Bomber Riley Miller and Jack Dommeyer held Goodhue to a run en route to victory. Miller, who earned the win, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out five in six innings.
Wildcat Ethan Schafer took a tough luck loss. Schafer allowed two runs -- only one was earned -- on three hits and four walks while striking out four.
GMLOK 9, Randolph 0
Randolph had a tough time offensively in a loss to GMLOK.
GMLOK pitcher Drew Copley kept the Rockets off-balance, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out eight in a complete-game victory.
Andrew Wenstrom and Dane Ehleringer each had a hit for the Rockets.
Randolph fell behind 1-0 in the first inning. GMLOK added three runs in the third inning and five more in the sixth.

The Lake City baseball team split its doubleheader against Byron on Wednesday, losing 5-0 and winning 5-4.
In Game 1, Bear's pitcher Collin Hucke kept the Tigers off the base paths in a two-hit shutout. Zach Sharpen and Josh Matanich each had a hit for the Tigers.
Byron scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning of the second game. The Tigers got one back in the second on Max Balow's RBI-single.
The Bears scored another run in the fourth, but the Tigers again answered in the fifth. Matanich doubled home Kylar Ruffel, Riley Borgschatz singled in a run three batters later and Jake Wohlers drove in a run on a single to cap a three-run inning.
The Tigers led 4-3 after the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth en route to the victory.
The Cannon Falls baseball team clinched the Hiawatha Valley League Blue Division title with a 5-4 win over Zumbrota-Mazeppa on Tuesday.
The Cougars had an early lead after eight batters came to the plate in the first inning. Willy Holm drove in Zach Hutton on sacrifice fly and three batters later, Jackson Stueber singled in a run. Cole Poncelet followed with another RBI-single.
The Cougars led 3-0 until the fourth. The Bombers scored two runs to get to within one. The Bombers took a 4-3 lead in the sixth on a two-run double off the bat of Luke Sjoquist.
In the top of the seventh, Zach Hutton scored on Willy Holm's single. Tied 4-4, the Bombers scored the winning run from third base on an error to the shortstop.
Bomber Cord Lingelbach earned the win on the mound in relief of Preston Heckmann.
Randolph 3, AC/GE 2
AJ Weidner's walk off RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh gave Randolph a 3-2 win over Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons.
The scoring started in the first inning for the Rockets. Andrew Wenstrom and Joey Erickson singled. Dane Ehleringer drove in Wenstrom two batters later on a sacrifice fly to left field. Matt Weber singled in Erickson to give the Rockets a 2-0 lead.
The score remained 2-0 until the seventh inning as Rocket Brandon Gertser kept AC/GE off-balance through six innings. Gerster allowed a hit and a walk while striking out 10.
Unfortunately for Gertser, he wasn't able to record the win as AC/GE scored two runs in the top of the seventh.
In the bottom half, Wenstrom led off with a single to left field. After a sacrifice bunt moved Wenstrom to third base, Weidner singled to center and drove in the winning run.
