Area Baseball: Randolph, K-W lead area teams

Thanks to a six-run third inning, the Randolph baseball team topped Lyle-Pacelli 11-3 on Monday.

The Rockets took advantage of some L-P errors. Joey Erickson reached on an error to load the bases, AJ Wiedner plated a run on a ground out to first and Dane Ehleringer followed with a three-run home run. Two singles and another error later, the Rockets had a 6-1 lead.

The combination of Andrew Wenstrom and Matt Weber made the lead stand as Wenstrom allowed three runs on five hits while striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings. Weber pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.

Kenyon-Wanamingo 6, Goodhue 1

Kenyon-Wanamingo opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Goodhue quickly tied the game in the top of the second. The game remained tied 1-1 until the sixth.

The Knights plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Ryan, Tyler Craig and Garret Grove each walked to load the bases. Alec Johnson singled in Ryan and Craig. Grove stole home, then Johnson scored on a throwing error after advancing to third on Colin Sviggum’s single. Two more runners came across to score and the Knights held the Wildcats in the seventh to grab the 6-1 win.

Johnson had two RBI for the Knights, while Grove and Ryan each had two hits.

Colin Warren drove in the lone run for the Wildcats.

Rochester Lourdes 12, Lake City 4

Tied at two after the first inning, Lourdes took a 4-2 lead in the third. Lake City answered with a run in the bottom half as Josh Matanich’s single scored Kylar Ruffel.

The Eagles scored a run in the fifth and sixth to stretch the lead to 6-3. In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers got one back. The Eagles allowed the first two batters to reach on an error, then Mac Heise’s sacrifice fly scored Mason White.

The Eagles offense ran away with the game in the seventh, scoring six runs.

Matanich paced the Tiger offense with three hits and two RBI. Zach Sharpen had two hits, both doubles, and an RBI.

Saturday

Scoring in every inning, the Goodhue baseball team had no shortage of offense in a 17-7 victory over Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity on Saturday.

In the first inning, the first four Wildcats to bat reached base safely and eventually came around to score. Seven batters came to bat for the Wildcats in the second with another two runs scoring.

Lester Prairie scored a run in the third and three in the fourth, but the Wildcats answered with three runs in the fifth and six in the sixth to pull away with the 10-run win.

Wildcat Ethan Schafer went 5-for-5 and scored three runs, while Connor O'Reilly drove in three runs. Logan Doerhoefer went 3-for-3 and Jay Dicke had two hits, two RBI and scored three runs.
