Baseball: Red Wing wins two of three
The Red Wing baseball team made it two wins in a row with a 3-1 victory over Waconia on Friday.
The Wingers got a lead in the fifth inning thanks to a three-run double off the bat of Caden Benway.
Andrew Ball started on the mound for the Wingers and struck out six batters in 5 1/3 innings. Bear Blaney and Taite Shelstad each had two hits.
Red Wing improved to 4-3 overall. The Wingers host its next two games against Mankato West on Tuesday and Austin on Thursday.
Down by two in the seventh inning, the Red Wing baseball team scored three runs to take the lead and eventually win 7-6 over Faribault on Thursday.
The Wingers and Falcons exchanged runs in the first two innings. In the third, Faribault went ahead 3-2. The Wingers tied the game in the fifth, but the Falcons scored two in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh, Jack Carlson, Taite Shelstad and Deso Buck came around to score to give the Wingers a 7-6 lead.
Carlson and Reese Tripp each drove in two RBI for the Wingers. Bear Blaney earned the win in relief of Marcus Walm.
The Red Wing baseball team was shut out 6-0 by John Marshall on Tuesday.
Rockets Sam Boysen and Drew Lingen held the WIngers to just three hits and nine total baserunners.
Leading 1-0 after four innings, the Rockets stretched the lead even further with a four-run fifth.
Marcus Walm had two hits and Caden Benway had a hit for the Wingers.
Red Wing moved to 2-3 overall. The Wingers next face Faribault on the road Thursday.
