Cannon Falls wins section kick, four area schools going to state

Cannon Falls scored a 510 in high kick on Saturday at the Section 2A dance team championship on Saturday at Bloomington Kennedy High School. Randolph came in second with a 449, followed by New Ulm Cathedral with 439. Goodhue placed sixth with a 357.

"We were very happy to see our scores increase in Kick and to continue our season another week," said Bomber head coach Jamie Swenning. "We are on the right track and will spend the next week fine tuning our routine to prepare for the state tournament."

In jazz, Cannon Falls came in fourth with a 381, behind New Ulm Cathedral (412), PACT Charter (399) and Richfield (397). Randolph was fifth with a 358 and Goodhue came in 11th with a 221.

In Section 1A jazz, Zumbrota-Mazeppa took the championship with a 452, followed by St. Charles (443) and Houston (388). Lake City came in seventh with a 300.

In kick, Wabasha-Kellogg was the champion with a 459, while Z-M was second with a 448, and Lake City third with a 447. The Cougars and Tigers both qualified for state.

The state tournament begins with jazz on Friday and continues Saturday with kick. Zumbrota-Mazeppa is slated for an 11:44 a.m. start in jazz. The first area kick team scheduled is Lake City at 11:44 a.m., followed by Randolph (11:51 a.m.), Z-M (12:26 p.m.) and Cannon Falls (12:40 p.m.)
