Area Dance Team Wrap: Z-M sweeps home invitational

Hosting a nine-team invitational on Saturday, the Zumbrota-Mazeppa dance team swept both the Jazz and High Kick competition. The Cougar Dance Team finished with 305 out of 500 points in Jazz, besting second-place St. Charles' 278. Z-M's High Kick tallied a 292, again beating St. Charles' 271.

Goodhue also competed at Z-M, placing third in the High Kick at 248.

BDT High Kick first at Fridley

A week after placing first at the Apple Valley Invitational, Cannon Falls' High Kick squad secured another top finish on Saturday at the Fridley Invitational. In the Class A High Kick, the Bomber Dance Team rolled with a first-place score of 381 while Wabasha-Kellogg was second with 319 and PACT Charter placed third at 303.

Cannon Falls' Jazz team finished second in Class A competition with 275. BOLD took the Jazz competition with a score of 327.

"We had a week of injuries and illness so we weren't sure what to expect going into Saturday," said BDT coach Jamie Swenning, noting three girls were missing from the High Kick and one for Jazz. "We told the girls that they just had to go out there, have fun and be confident. They did just that. They had a great run in Kick. Their kicks were good and they had a lot of energy. There were a few mistakes in Jazz, but overall (it was) a pretty good run."
