Hiawatha Valley League rivals Kenyon-Wanamingo and Kasson-Mantorville met up on the state’s biggest stage Friday in the Class AA state consolation semifinals.
After falling in five sets during the regular-season meeting back on Oct. 12, the KoMets got their revenge with a three-set win over the Knights at the Xcel Energy Center, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23.
Peyton Suess was K-M’s top attacker with 18 kills, followed by nine from Emilee Terry and seven from Caroline Braun. Bailey Berge anchored the back row with 16 digs, and Abbey Bigelow facilitated the offense with 34 set assists. The KoMets were also a wall at the net wtih 10 blocks, led by four from Mya Suess.
For K-W, Corynne Dahl came up with a team-high 11 kills, followed by eight apiece from Julianna Boyum and Ally Peterson. Madi Luebke and Maddie McCauley had 17 and 16 set assists, respectively, Sydney Way had 18 digs, and Boyum was the team leader in blocks with two.
While the Knights had more attack opportunities, the K-M defense held K-W to a .059 attack percentage. In the first two sets, the Knights had 23 kills and 23 attack errors in 90 chances.
K-M (24-11) ended up winning the consolation bracket after sweeping Roseau on Saturday.
The Knights end the 2017 season with a 22-9 record.
