Girls Hockey: Wingers open with a win

Led by three goals from Taylor Heise, Red Wing opened the season with a 5-2 victory over Mahtomedi on Thursday.

The Zephyrs got a 1-0 lead 4 minutes, 4 seconds into the game on a Kylie Krawczyk goal, but Heise evened the score at 15:21.

Anna Broten made it 2-1 Mahtomedi at 2:58 of the second period, with Heise answering at 13:50.

Eliza DiNatale scored unassisted for the Wingers at 2:35 of the third, followed by Nicole Oberding scoring on a Heise assist at 9:08. Heise completed her hat trick at 11:53.

Tyler McGrath made 25 saves in the win, while Zephyr goalie Johanna Ficcadenti stopped 26 of 31 Red Wing shots.
