Area Girls Soccer Wrap: PIZM pulls away from Cannon Falls

Leading Cannon Falls 3-2 at halftime, Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa punched in four second-half goals to pull away with a 7-2 Hiawatha Valley League win on Thursday.

Morgan VanHouten was the Wildcats' top scorer with three goals, with Lauralee Eaton, Victoria Toft, Emilie Rucker and Claudia Gunhus also providing scores in the win. In net, goalkeeper Roslind Anderson stopped two shots for PIZM.

For the Bombers, Mari Mendivil came up with 21 saves while Anna Giese and Kalysa Banks each scored in the loss.

PIZM (3-10) heads to St. Charles on Saturday while Cannon Falls (3-7-1) returns home Tuesday against Stewartville.


Mankato Loyola 3, PIZM 1

Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa managed to take a 1-0 lead against Mankato Loyola. But the Crusaders dominated the final 40 minutes with three second-half goals in a 3-1 win against the Wildcats Tuesday.

PIZM's lone goal came from Morgan VanHouten while goalkeeper Jordan Weber came up with three saves in the loss.

Anne Wood, Miriah Sadaka and Sidney Botker each found the back of the net for Loyola. Goalie Claire Orcutt got her hands on eight shots in the victory.
