Amateur Baseball: Aces fall in extras to Hampton

Going 11 innings on Sunday, a walk-off single by Jonny Selchow sealed a 2-1 Classic Cannon Valley League win for Hampton over Red Wing.

The Aces got on the board first in the top of the fifth as Brodie Smith hit a two-out RBI single that drove Seth Cushing home. The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game at 1-1 as Ryan Scanlon reached home on an error.

Kyle Blahnik and Seth Cushing were both 2-for-5 for Red Wing to lead the offense. Mitch Matter, Smith, Adam Thygesen, Dixon Irwin and Teddy Tauer all collected hits as the Aces finished with 10 on the day. Fielding ended up being problematic for Red Wing as the team committed four errors in the game.

Spencer Schroeder took the loss after pitching 4 1/3 innings of relief.

Miesville 5, Northfield 3

A three-run third inning proved to be the difference for Miesville on Sunday in a 5-3 win over Classic Cannon Valley League foe Northfield.

Nate Hammes led the Mudhens' offense, going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in. Matt Van Der Bosch was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs.

Steve Maher pitched seven innings for Miesville, picking up the win after giving up two runs on four hits and five walks with six strikeouts over seven innings.


Wanamingo 13, Rochester 8

Brady Anfinson was 3-for-5 with three RBI, and Alex Roosen hit a home run for Wanamingo in a 13-8 victory against Rochester in Twin Rivers League play.

Alex Roosen finished the day 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Peder Sviggum was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs, and Gavin Roosen finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Zeke Chamblee collected the win with five runs on nine hits and two walks given up with three strikeouts in five innings.


Wanamingo 7, Red Wing 6

A four-run first inning, followed by two runs in the second, vaulted the Wanamingo Jacks to a 7-6 non-league win over Red Wing Friday at the Red Wing Athletic Field.

Six Wanamingo players finished with two hits: Peder Sviggum, Eric Sviggum, Alex Roosen, Brady Anfinson, Gavin Roosen and Andrew Anfinson. Alex Roosen also had a double with three RBI and a run scored, and Andrew Anfinson also hit for a double while driving in a run. Brady Anfinson was the winning pitcher with five runs (two earned), 14 hits and one walks allowed over six innings.

For Red Wing, Kyle Blahnik was 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, and Mitch Matter and Adam Thygesen both finished with three hits and two runs, with Thygesen adding an RBI. Brodie Smith finished 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Trey Eckstrom was hit with the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits over 1 1/3 innings.

Elko 2, Miesville 0

Miesville's seven-game win streak came to a close on Friday after getting shut out against Elko, 2-0.

Limited to three hits in the game, Nate Hammes was 2-for-4 while Deryk Marks was 1-for-4.

Jacob Dickmeyer threw eight innings for the Mudhens, striking out eight while giving up two runs (one earned), eight hits and a walk in the loss.

Northfield 9, Randolph 0

Northfield managed to hold Randolph to four hits in a 9-0 shutout victory in Classic Cannon Valley League play.

Dillon Sellner was 2-for-4 for the Railcats, with Dylan Bergstad and Grant Otte also adding a hit apiece for Randolph.

Mitch Fox took the loss with seven runs (five earned), five hits and four walks given up with one strikeout over three innings.
