Amateur Baseball: Miesville clinches state berth

Miesville is headed to the Class B state tournament after the top-seeded Mudhens swept fourth-seeded Northfield in their best-of-three series with a 12-1 Section 1B victory on Tuesday.

Finishing with 18 hits on the day, Miesville blew the game wide open with a seven-run second inning. Charles Bruchu was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, Nate Hammes finished 3-for-6 with two RBI and a run, and Andrew Werner went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, three RBI and a run. Spencer Merle scored three times while going 2-for-5, and Joey Werner helped the Mudhens' cause by going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

On the mound, Steve Maher got the win after striking out 11 with four hits, three walks and a run allowed in a seven-inning victory.

Miesville will play in a seeding game against either Dundas or Elko this weekend before beginning the Class B state tournament, which will start on Aug. 20-21 in Litchfield.
