Amateur Baseball: Miesville opens 1B with victory

After a first-round bye, Miesville was well rested for its Section 1B best-of-three series against Northfield. But, the Mudhens' bats did not take a break.

Going off for 16 hits, including four-hit games from Charles Bruchu and Nate Hammes, Miesville made short work of the visiting Knights on Sunday with a 14-3 seven-inning victory at Jack Ruhr Field.

Hammes hit a home run and a double for the Mudhens while Joey Werner scored three times in the victory. On the mound, Jacob Dickmeyer went the distance for Miesville, striking out three with no walks and eight hits allowed in the victory.

For Northfield, Eric Pittman was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, and Scott Benjamin was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

The Mudhens will try to clinch a state berth at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Northfield. If the Knights win, the deciding game will take place Friday at Miesville.
