Amateur Baseball: Aces win two straight

Red Wing used two big innings to thump Pine Island, 12-0, in seven innings Friday at the Red Wing Athletic Field.

The Aces (22-5) tallied 14 hits and two walks while the Pioneers made three errors.

Steve Boldt went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI and a stolen base to lead Red Wing and Kyle Blahnik was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Zach Garner finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in the victory.

Andy Gibart picked up the win for the Aces, throwing five innings and allowing three hits and two walks while striking out three. Dustin LaRue pitched the final two innings, giving up three hits and striking out one.

Red Wing got started in the third inning, sending nine hitters to the plate. Adam Thygesen was hit by a pitch to start the inning, Garner hit a single and Boldt followed with a double to put the Aces up 2-0. After two straight outs, Blahnik singled in Boldt, Alex Quiding doubled and Pine Island made an error to score Quiding for a 5-0 lead.

Then, Red Wing piled it on, scoring seven runs as 12 batters stepped to the plate in the fifth inning.

Mitchell Enerson went 2-for-3 for Pine Island.

The Aces play again Sunday at home against Northfield.
