Letter: Seniors, capitalize on free energy saving tips
To the editor:
Sometimes senior citizens dread the thought of another heating season because of its high costs. Seniors Saving Energy at Home is a program to improve energy efficiency by making simple changes that can add up to savings.
The Red Wing Sustainability Commission with support from Xcel Energy's Partners in Energy is offering a free seminar and luncheon about the Home Energy Squad 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 18 at Pier 55.
If you are over 55 years old and are still living in your house, this program will introduce you to the benefits of a home energy audit. Audits have been around for a while, but special income guidelines have made them more affordable. Also, the scope of their work has expanded to include LED lighting, weather stripping, water heater blankets, faucet aerators, shower heads, and even programmable thermostats.
Home Energy Squad staff will be at the luncheon to answer questions and explain what they do. A free lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m. for attendees.
Please call Pier 55 at 651-327-2255 to make your free program and luncheon reservation for Thursday, Oct. 18.
Saving energy, saving money, and saving greenhouse gas emissions are all the right things to do. Please join the Red Wing Sustainability Commission in doing the right things on Oct. 18.
