Letter: Watch your rights go up in smoke
To the Editor:
I think it is really sad that we have to make laws against smoking in restaurants and bars.
We live in a country where we have a choice to walk in that bar or not, to walk into that restaurant or not. I see nothing wrong with a smoke shop either where those who want to smoke can.
No, I am not a smoker, but I am sick of our freedoms getting taken away one by one.
In Mississippi, they are passing laws not to let the obese eat at all-you-can-eat restaurants either. It is their choice to eat like they do, not ours.
This is getting so out of hand in a country that has freedoms and rights. We have choices to and brains to make those choices. I am against government stepping more and more into our lives.
Maybe they should take away cell phones; some say they are linked to brain cancer. Maybe they should take away sugar. That causes many diseases.
What about alcohol? We have gone down that road before already.
Have you ever thought of what will be next?
