Glenn J. Dwelle, Sr.

Glenn J. Dwelle, Sr., age 87, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2017 in Lake City, Minnesota. Born to Joseph M. and A. Linnea (Johnson) Dwelle on December 26, 1929 in Lake City, MN, Glenn grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School. He began working for his grandfather, Glenn M. Dwelle at the Dwelle Telephone Company when he was 17 years old. He continued with the telephone company for 28 years. He was District Manager of southeastern Minnesota for United Telephone Co. when he left in 1973 to become the owner of the Coast to Coast store in Lake City. Together with his wife Angie, they operated the Coast to Coast store for 21 years before retiring in 1994. On September 20, 1950, he married Angeline Mary Oelkers at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa, MN. Together they built a life in Lake City, MN raising their six children. He was an active member of the community, serving on numerous boards and commissions including the Lake City Hospital Board; Federal Savings & Loan Association, serving as Chairman of the Board for many years; Lake City Water & Light Boards; Planning Commission; Kiwanis; City Council; and Industrial Development Corp. Glenn was an active outdoorsman, and his love of pheasant hunting and bird dogs was known by everyone who visited the Coast to Coast store only to be greeted by one of his Brittany Spaniels. He shared his love of hunting with his friends, sons and grandsons on numerous trips to southern Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota. Glenn is survived by his wife of 67 years, Angie. Five sons, Glenn J. (Bonnie) Dwelle, Jr., Thomas (Rita) Dwelle, Patrick (Lisa) Dwelle of Lake City, MN; Bruce (Roberta) Dwelle of Colorado Springs, CO; and Richard (Mary) Dwelle of Vacaville, CA; and one daughter, Mary (Dan) Coyle of Lake City, MN. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. And Lady Ann, his Brittany for the past 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and A. Linnea Dwelle, and his sister Betty A. Klennert. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18 at 11:00am at First Lutheran Church in Lake City, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17 from 4-7:00 pm at the Church, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, First Lutheran Church, or St. Croix Hospice.
