Area Girls' Basketball: Goodhue, Lake City move on to section semifinals

The Goodhue girls’ basketball team overpowered Houston 68-37 in a Section 1A quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Lexie Lodermeier led the Wildcats with a game-high 25 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Joslyn Carlson scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Kate Opsahl had seven points, five rebounds and five steals.

“While Lexie and Joslyn combined for 40 points, it really was our guard play of Opsahl, Arianna Thomforde, Elissa Lodermeier and Torrie Rehder to break through (Houston’s) 1-3-1,” said Goodhue head coach Josh Wieme.

Goodhue next faces Hayfield in Rochester at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.


The Lake City girls' basketball team topped Plainview-Elgin-Millville 72-56 in a Section 1AA quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Natalie Bremer led the Tigers with 20 point. Lilly Meincke scored 15 points and Morgan West contributed 12 points with two 3-pointers.

Lake City next face Winona Cotter in a semifinal on Saturday.

Cotter 54, Zumbrota-Mazeppa 37

Zumbrota-Mazeppa fell to Cotter 54-37 in a Section 1AA quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Cotter held the Cougars to its lowest point total of the season. The Cougars trailed 19-15 at the half and couldn’t make up as they were outscored 34-22 in the second half.

Megan Johnson scored a team-high 12 points for the Cougars. Ali Hunstad had 11 points and Makayla Arendt added five points.

Z-M ended its season 20-7 overall.
