Community input to drive 'Design Ellsworth'
Interested in seeing Ellsworth revitalized? The Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce's Connect Communities Committee has an answer for you.
Kim Beebe and Becky Beissel announced at the Monday, Sept. 10, Ellsworth Village Board meeting that residents and visitors of Ellsworth will have the opportunity to share their hopes for the future of the community during a three-day community initiative project titled "Design Ellsworth," which will be held Oct. 18-20.
On Thursday, Oct. 18, members of Design Wisconsin, a research-based team of planning and design professionals, will volunteer their time to assist the Ellsworth community in mapping out its future. The Design Wisconsin team will stay throughout the three-day event and will immerse itself into the community by meeting with community residents, business people, government leaders, senior citizens and youth of all ages, to get a better feel for the perception of Ellsworth.
Friday, Oct. 19, will be filled with community presentations, focus groups and bus tours of Ellsworth and will be capped off with a community dinner and workshop held at 6 p.m. at Ellsworth Elementary School. All are welcome to the free spaghetti dinner at EES, which will be followed by Design Wisconsin-led guided activities and discussions that are designed to elicit feedback and ideas about the future of Ellsworth. After discussion, participants will be able to voice their opinions on their favorite ideas through a vote.
The Design Wisconsin team will conclude their visit with a grand reveal of their sketched ideas at a social gathering held on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Ellsworth High School Auditorium.
According to Beebe, the event isn't limited to Ellsworth residents. Anyone who has invested interest in Ellsworth — whether they work, recreate or shop in the community — is welcome to share their ideas.
"We don't want people to think, 'Well, I don't live in Ellsworth, so it doesn't apply to me,'" Beebe said. "If they have any ties to the community whatsoever, we want their participation."
Those who want to have a say in the future of Ellsworth can sign up for the Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20, events on the "Ellsworth: Envision. Enhance, Enjoy!' website, www.ellsworthe3.com.
